John Elway’s Agent Jeff Sperbeck Died In Golf Cart Accident Where Elway Was Driving, Police Investigating

Jeff Sperbeck, the former agent and business partner of NFL Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway, died form injuries he suffered during a golf cart accident on April 26th, according to TMZ Sports.

Elway later released a statement on Sperbeck’s death, saying he was “absolutely devastated and heartbroken,” via ESPN’s Adam Schefter:

Sperbeck, 62, fell off a golf cart being driven by Elway and suffered a traumatic brain injury. He was placed on life support and declared dead Wednesday by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office in California.

9NEWS’ Mike Klis shared a statement from Lt. Deirdre Vickers, the department’s public information officer.

“The Riverside Sheriff’s Office was informed of the incident on Monday, April 28th, and opened an investigation,” Vickers said. “At this time, the investigation is ongoing, and no details are available.”

Elway played 16 years in the NFL, all with the Denver Broncos. He retired after the Broncos won their second of two straight Super Bowls in 1998. He returned to the organization as its general manager in 2011 and held that title until stepping down in January 2021.

Elway has pursued a number of business ventures away from football over the years. Among those is his 7Cellars wine, which he co-founded with Sperbeck.
