Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair was fined $11,593 for wearing eye black that had a message “stop the genocide” written on it during last week’s AFC Wild Card game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Adam Schefter reports.
Al-Shaair was fined for violating NFL uniform and equipment rules by wearing eye black that contained a personal message.
The message referenced Israel’s questionable policies in Gaza that has resulted in thousands of deaths of Palestinians.
Al-Shaair has voiced his support for Palestinians by wearing cleats to support Palestinian causes through the NFL’s “My Cause, My Cleats” program over the past few seasons.
“If my platform can bring even a little hope to families in Palestine, then that is what I want to use it for,” he said in a statement earlier this season.
The Texans defeated the Steelers, 30-6, in the AFC Wild Card Game last Monday and will play the New England Patriots in the Divisional Round on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. ET.
