A man had to be rescued on Saturday after a parachuting accident on the scoreboard at Lane Stadium during the Virginia Tech Spring Football Game, the Blacksburg Fire Dept. announced.
Shortly before kickoff at 3 p.m., three skydivers were parachuting into Lane Stadium. One skydiver landed on the field as planned, according to firefighters. Firefighters say wind gusts pushed another skydiver onto the adjacent practice field.
Another skydiver landed on the scoreboard, dangling, according to firefighters. The scoreboard was damaged, according to firefighters.
Firefighters say the man stuck on the scoreboard was brought down safely in 30 minutes.
Here are videos of the scary accident:
The jumper’s parachute appeared to get stuck between the letters ‘C’ and ‘H’ — ripping off the covering and exposing the lights beneath.
The parachuter dropped their American flag, along with a smaller parachute, into the stands below as they were suspended mid-air on the sign.
The parachuter was successfully rescued 45 minutes later.
