DALLAS, TX – The Dallas Cowboys’ worst nightmare has come to fruition.

Tony Romo went down with a back injury Thursday night after being sacked from behind by Seahawks Cliff Avril. Though it initially looked serious, Romo was spotted on the sideline throwing was was allegedly held back from going into the game. The team elected to have an MRI done on Romo for precautionary reasons, and good thing they did.

The MRI revealed a broken vertebrae in his back, and though he will not undergo likely season-ending surgery, Romo is expected to miss 6-10 weeks.

The Cowboys elected to not go after a veteran backup quarterback this offseason in free agency, and will presumably go with rookie Dak Prescott, who’s been lighting it up in the preseason regardless of his inexperience.
