Alex Smith Shows Off Leg With Multiple Rods Sticking Out In First Public Appearance Since Gruesome Injury

Alex Smith was publicly seen for the first time this week since suffering a gruesome broken leg during a game in November. Despite the severity of the injury, the site of the mechanism on his leg is still a shock.

The Redskins quarterback crutched his way to a Washington Wizards game Monday night and did so with the complicated brace featuring multiple rods sticking into his leg.

The external fixator was installed by surgeons to help stabilize Smith’s tibia and fibula which were both snapped during a Texans sack.

Smith suffered post-operation infections that forced doctors to re-operate on his leg, ultimately saving it. Though he still has both legs, it’s likely Smith will have to endure more surgeries to fully recover.
