  1. Hard to see at that framerate, but seems to me as if the reciever has control before getting hit. Could there be a helmet to helmet though or does the shoulder reach his far side before the helmet hits?

        • Watched it again… His shoulder made direct contact with the ball which is what dislodged it in the first place. So unless you think he was holding the ball with his neck we are going to have to agree to disagree. It looks like a clean hit to the chest/arm area. Not much more that he could have done unless he went for Jackson’s knees.

          • I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree.

I’m sure you being a 49ers fan has nothing to do with your point of view.

          • That was NOT a clean hit by NFL Rulebook.

My opinion is that that SHOULD BE a clean hit. If you ask me the rules are wrong, and they should be changed. BUT at the same time, the game officials have to enforce them as well as they can.

By the current NFL rules that’s a foul for hitting a defenseless player in the neck area, good call 100%.

If you disagree with the rules (as I do) you shouldn’t be complaining about the game officials, you should be complaining about the rules committee.

          • clearly you never played football, 110% wrong call go watch your friends play flag football if you don’t think this was clean

          • Well, you are wrong, I played as Free Safety (I wasn’t any good anyway) and I’m now a Football Official, mostly as Umpire or Back Judge, here in Italy.

          • well if you think this is a penalty then I feel awful for players in Italy, and this is America we don’t play two hand touch.

          • It’s not a matter of “thinking this is a penalty”. This IS a foul according to NFL RULES (we use NCAA rules here in italy btw, and it would still be a foul).

The point I’m trying to make, but I’m not sure you understand it, is that it’s not up to the man officiating the game to decide what is a foul and what is not a foul. Everything is written down in the rulebook. The officials can only enforce it.

I understand the point you are making, I even agree with you to a certain extent. I do think this hit should not be a foul (not for professional football at least, I think the rule is good as it is when it comes to college football). But unfortunatly it’s not up to me, and neither up to the NFL officials to change the rulebook.

You should be complaining about those who actually write the rulebook instead of complaining about the refs.

            TL:DR version:

it IS a foul according to NFL rules. The call was good.
I think it should not be a foul, but it’s not up to me, nor the NFL official to change the rulebook.

          • He couldn’t have hit his chin because upon impact, Jackson tucked his chin. His helmet hit the other shoulder, and really wasn’t anywhere near his chin.

  2. Blah blah blah helmet to helmet contact…. Blah blah blah in the act of catchîng makes him a defenseless receiver… Blah blah blah launched himself…. if Ronny Lott and Steve Atwater were dead they would by rolling over in their graves at the stupidity that has engulfed the NFL and the fact that all of the stupidity isn’t doing anything to decrease the number of injuries. Just put flags around their waist and dress them in skirts already.

  3. You can whine allyou want about the “pussification of football”

But the officials shouldn’t be your target. They do not judge the rules, they have to enforce them. This was a blatant foul by the NFL rulebook, and a good call. Maybe you should bring your complaints to whoever actually writes those rules.

  4. Think it was a right call. Penalties are not reviewable; therefore, it is what the ref saw and heard at the time of play. I watched that play and at the time it did seem like helmet to helmet. Ref threw the flag and made the call. The refs are damned if they make the call and they are damned if they don’t make the call. People seem to forget that refs are people that sometimes make mistakes, but also take their job very seriously.

  5. I’m all for some extra safety and what not here and there, but for anyone watching this and going “hmmmm….. that’s a foul”….. it’s a clean hit. The receiver is already continuing his forward progress when he gets hit AND the slow mo replay really just puts the nail on the coffin on this case. The hit was below the neck and his helmet goes right into the receivers shoulder. The guy got freight trained, that doesn’t make it a foul. If he had actually hit his helmet from that angle, you would see the receivers helmet make a serious backwards pop and not just a small jolt backwards an inch, possibly even knocking it off. Dude gets hit in the chest. It was a bad call, but it was just a mistake in the end, can’t win them all.

  6. Seriously? Because he got hit ‘too hard?’ COMMON PEOPLE! He caught the ball, was even headed in route with his run and was DENIED! Defenseless receiver? Exactly what was said, when are they NOT defenseless? If you can’t handle the hits boys, hang up your panties and stop playing the game.

  7. I’m impressed, I have to admit. Genuinely rarely should i encounter a weblog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you may have hit the nail about the head. Your idea is outstanding; the problem is an element that insufficient persons are speaking intelligently about. I am delighted we came across this during my look for something with this.

  8. I think that what you published made a great deal of sense.
However, think about this, what if you added a little information? I
am not suggesting your information is not good., however suppose you added something to maybe grab folk’s attention? I mean Donte HITner With The
Huge Hit – Daily Snark is a little boring. You should peek at Yahoo’s front page and note how they write news headlines to grab viewers
to click. You might try adding a video or a related picture or two to grab readers interested about everything’ve got to say.
In my opinion, it would bring your posts a little bit more interesting.

  9. Wonderful site you have here but I was curious about
if you knew of any discussion boards that cover the same topics talked about here?
I’d really love to be a part of group where I
can get comments from other experienced individuals
that share the same interest. If you have any recommendations, please let me know.
    Thanks!

  10. Hi there! I could have sworn I’ve been to this site before but after reading through
