Former Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson helps unload a truck filled with food for the 1500 Thanksgiving meals that will be distributed to indigent families at the Fifth Ward Church of Christ on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, in Houston. Johnson was joined by former Texans linebacker Demeco Ryans and church members to unload and sort through the food items to be distributed on Friday.

Andre Johnson announced his retirement from the NFL a short time ago and will be remembered for his charitable acts off the field as much as his Hall of Fame play on it.

The former longtime Texans WR is living up to that perception just weeks after hanging it up, providing 1,500 underprivileged Houston-area families with Thanksgiving dinner.

Johnson was asked about the show of gratitude by the media Thursday:

The dinners are just one of the long list of charitable donations Johnson has made, joining his notable act every Christmas where he lets kids run around toy stores collecting all they can hold, racking up tens of thousands of dollars in Christmas gifts, all on Andre.
