Monacan High School took on Lake Taylor High School for the Virginia 4A South Region title on Friday night. With 14 seconds remaining, the Titans of Lake Taylor trailed 14-12 but were in position to kick the game-winning field goal but on 4th down from the 6-yard line, Monacan blocked the field goal attempt.
Monacan players cheered and celebrated, thinking they had just clinched a birth in the state title game. But meanwhile, Lake Taylor’s Marquise Poole picked up the live ball, yes live ball and ran it into the end zone for a touchdown with just five seconds remaining, giving Lake Taylor a 19-14 lead and a win.
