Teddy Bridgewater Knocked Unconscious By Cheap Shot From Lamarcus Joyner

This is a concussion if I’ve ever seen one…

During the 4th Quarter of the Rams vs Vikings matchup in Minnesota, safety Lamarcus Joyner came in with a lethal looking elbow, nailing Vikings QB in the head, sending it immediately to the turf.

Here’s a video of the play:

Joyner will likely be receiving a nice envelop from the league for the hit and maybe a suspension. We know how much the NFL treasures their QB’s. Fun fact with this scenario, the Rams defensive coordinator is the infamous Greg Williams, the center of the Saint’s “Bounty-Gate” situation where players were apparently payed based on their efforts to injure opposing quarterbacks.

The worst angle is the last one shown, a view from behind Joyner, where you can see just how fast Bridgewater’s head slams to the turf after being contacted by Joyner’s arm.

Interestingly enough, down in New Orleans, Titans LB Brian Orakpo was thrown out of the game for arguing a weak roughing the passer call, when he didn’t even commit the act. Meanwhile Joyner wasn’t even flagged on the play on what should have been a clear penalty called by the referee crew.

If a defender has already committed himself, and the contact is unavoidable, it is not a foul unless the defender commits some other act, such as helmet-to-helmet contact or by driving his forearm or shoulder into the head or neck area of the runner.” Joyner pretty clearly did not DRIVE his elbow into Bridgewater. If you look at Joyner’s body, he is very clearly turning in mid air to avoid contact. He starts the tackle face down and winds up on his back due to twisting in mid air.

    No foul, hopefully no fine, and I’d say the same if it was Nick Foles being hit.

    • And I though I haven’t been able to see the game yet and was going on the above video, I just heard from other sources that Joyner was indeed called on the play… so congratulations. The Vikings got a ticky tack call over incidental content, and you’re still complaining on their behalf.

    • Right click the gif, “show controls” start pausing and playing. He launched well after the slide started. Clear as day, paused on my screen. The NFL will have more advanced technology than that and surely see as much. Did he do it on purpose? I don’t know, I doubt it. They’re friends and all. I’m sure he’ll see a fine though.

      I didn’t think you needed to pause it to see he went late to begin with.
