BREAKING: Cam Newton Tests Positive For COVID-19

This was a nightmare the league was hoping to avoid.

New England Patriots quarterback Cam newton has tested positive for the coronavirus and is out for the team’s Week 4 game against the Kanasas City Chiefs.

The NFL released a statement on Saturday saying that there were “positive COVID-19 tests on both teams.” As a result of the positive tests, the NFL said Sunday’s scheduled game will be played either Monday or Tuesday.

The Chiefs player that tested positive was practice squad quarterback Jordan Ta’amu.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the game will likely be played on Tuesday:

Newton has been great during the first three games of his Patriots career, leading the team to a 2-1 start while throwing for 714 yards and two touchdowns. He has also added 35 rushes for 149 yards and four touchdowns.

If the game is played on Tuesday, the expectation is Brian Hoyer will start at quarterback.
